Twig Colored Pencils – I absolutely love these as wedding favors and place card holders too! Not only are they eco friendly wedding favors, but they are functional too. Be sure to have some recycled paper at the tables that say, “Draw a picture or write a special note to the newlyweds” and have someone collect them at the end of the night. When you read these later on, you’ll see how silly the messages get as the night goes on – and as the wine keeps pouring.

I found these natural colored twig pencil bundles from an eBay seller. To make it even cheaper I’d split them up so each guest gets just a few.

For easy tags, buy a paper punch in a shape you like (like my leaf) and punch through some recycled paper! This craft punch was found at a local craft shop several years ago.

1) Spray paint the bottom of a clay pot black, or whatever color you choose. Once dry paint the top rim a difference color.

2) Collect branches to put in your pots. I just cut branches from a tree in our yard and used one large branch per pot.

3) Fill the pot with rocks to help secure the tree branch.

4) Create the toilet paper ornaments by cutting a swatch that will cover the toilet paper roll. Don’t worry about getting all the way to the top and bottom because your accessories will cover it up. Once you have glued the fabric to the roll, punch two small holes in the top of the roll, one of each side and then thread wire or string through the holes as a way to hang it. Finally, glue beads to the bottom and add a small boa to the top – or whatever trimming accessories you choose. (fringe, ribbon, etc)

5) Collect gems with holes in the top to hang from the branches. You can find gems at Michaels and other craft or bead stores. Then thread with clear string or wire and hang from the branches.

6) Glue orchids randomly on the branches and finally, cover the top of the pot with flowers or moss to cover the rocks.

This bride and her wealthy future mother-in-law  were not on the same space-time continuum. “I would be absolutely freaking out listening to her. Whose life was she talking about?” Erika was a harried bride-to-be, working full time and going to school every night. “We had no money , no furniture, laundry all over our apartment, and what – I’m gonna have a silver platter in my closet?” Registering for gifts that will be great sometime in the far distant future , when your priorities changed, seemed ridiculous to Erika. “It got to the point where I was asking her, ‘Can I just register for tuition?’ She didn’t think that was funny.”

Generation gap is not that big problem on a wedding. We just have to know the likes and dislikes of each other. The very real possibility of bad weather means being prepared for wet or muddy ground (do you want to put down a floor?). And a tent, much as its name conjures an image  of something  you can roll up and carry on your back, is not cheap.

An outdoor wedding can be a   breathtaking. However, it involves a bit of work. But this is only once in a lifetime, so why not give your best shot on it. Most awaiting day of your life, it can’t be a disaster. Having an outdoor wedding  is so much fun, but be sure to always be ready for all the things will happen.
